8 Tips For Better Parenting

1 Mins read
Parents are the sole cause of our existence. The way a parent interacts with the child becomes the child’s inner voice. Of course, It is not an easy job, rather one of the most difficult things to do, but a little care and time can make it easier for them as well as the child.

Here are few things that can make a difference:

  1. Express your love to your child. Provide them with a sense of security and assuring them by verbalizing your love and care for them.
  2. Do not compare. Every child is different and is unique in their own way. Being able to see the positive and working on the negative will help the child gain confidence.
  3. Criticize the wrong behaviour and not the child. It is important that we do not blame the child for what they have done wrong instead explain how they can work on it and do better the next time.
  4. Spend quality time with the child. Plan things that you can do together. This will help increase the child’s trust on you.
  5. Listen to your child and make them feel heard. Pay attention to their behaviour and non-verbal cues. There are times when children behave differently because of certain unfavourable situation/environment/events at school or with peers. In times like these it is important to talk to the child to get a better understanding of the situation rather than scolding and punishing them for their behaviour. Punishing is an option, not a choice.
  6. Praise and appreciate the child for their good actions and encourage them to follow it. Give small rewards to the child every time they do something good.
  7. Focus on expressing emotions like anger, frustration, sadness and so on and not just happiness and joy. Teach the child how to deal with them without hurting others.
  8. Treat the child as an individual with individual needs and choices. Help them take their own decisions with your guidance.
