What Is Meditation And Why It Is Essential For You

Meditation is a technique or form of concentration which allows you to clear your mind of all worldly thoughts and focus on one single thing. This extreme type of concentration brings you peace and contentment. It may not be the answer to all your problems but it will provide you peace of mind to deal with them. However, like all types of activities, it needs to be undertaken regularly so as to reap it’s full benefits.

Why Meditate

The first question that anyone asks when considering meditation is, “How will it help me? What are the core benefits?” Well, it reduces stress by having a direct effect on your entire nervous system. It reduces your body’s production of stress related chemicals like cortisol, and in turn increases the production of mood enhancing chemicals like serotonin. Meditation also improves your health by strengthening your immune system so you can fight off infections better.

Studies have also shown that regular practice of meditation can slow down the aging process considerably. It is also a very effective for people who suffer from anxiety and/or depression, or for people who find it difficult to control their anger. If all this doesn’t convince you to start meditating then I don’t know what will!

How To Meditate

Meditation requires you to sit comfortably and to empty your brain of all thoughts. Focus on one particular thought or object or even your own breathing. In the initial stages, it will be difficult to stop your mind from wandering. Don’t try to stop that. Let your mind go. Don’t pressurize your brain to stop, instead try to let all these thought pass you by. Once that happens, your mind will itself return to your initial point in focus.

With regular practice, your mind will wander less and less and concentrating on THAT ONE THOUGHT will become easier to maintain. This’ll give you peace and a sense of contentment with your present state.
