Why Do We Hate Mondays?

2 Mins read

MONDAYs, What Is Wrong With You?

You often hear people complaining about the coming Monday. After all Mondays have got a bad reputation in the society, but why do we tend to hate Mondays when other days in the working week are not really special as far as routine is concerned?

As most of the questions can be answered by science, this one also has a scientific reasoning.

It depends on your Perspective:

As per psychologists Monday blues are relatively leaned towards psychological reasons than physical ones. In simple words the psychology works in a basic reasoning- If you love what you do and are passionate about it, you’ll be looking forward to an energetic Monday rather than feeling stressed. Sometimes it might work as a warning sign for those who are unsatisfied with their current work or those who feel they are under appreciated at work.

It depends on your Sleep Pattern:

People usually do not get enough or proper sleep during week days. Hence they tend to cover up their sleep during weekends by sleeping for little extra time (It can be afternoon nap or longer hours of peaceful sleep in the night). As most of us would perceive this to be a relaxing gesture for our body, this tends to work the other way round. Our body clock is unable to adjust to such a change in sleeping hours in just two days. Hence when we get back to the routine of “less sleeping hours” on Monday, we tend to wake up tired and not enthusiastic.

It depends on the social mind-set around us:

We tend to compare Sunday with Monday. As Sundays are depicted as “happy joyous day” Mondays tend to be less attractive. Mondays seem to be the worst day in the week while Friday appears as the best day because it is always followed by a “FUN” weekend.

It depends on the tendency to beat oneself up:

As per the statistical data collected by many researchers, many people tend to wake up on Monday morning with Loser Complex (LC), which is the result of contemplation of existential crisis on Sundays. One might wake up feeling bad about oneself. It is true that people start positive things due to this complex, for instance any diet plan will always begin on Monday, but this roots from the self- critical thoughts about oneself. Also, these positive things for self -improvement requires hard work and commitment. Since Monday is the day to start with those habits we tend to hate Mondays.

So, What Is The Conclusion Then?

In the end it all comes down to one thing-Your perspective. One might tend to procrastinate wok on Fridays and hence when getting back to work on Monday one might get succumbed under the pressure of meeting deadlines. Why not take Mondays as a beginning of a new seven day journey and look forward to it with our head held high? Alright, don’t scorn now.
