Myths And Facts About Smoking

1 Mins read

IN BRIEF: Every movie theatre and every show on TV begins with someone coughing and big bold letters asking us not to smoke. That is all fine. But, nobody seems to inform people about the MYTHS and FACTS about smoking. In this post we address this issue.

Smoking is not only a habit but is a disease, one that not only harms you but also the people around. It is estimated that smoking can reduce up to 14 years from one’s life which clearly shows there is no ‘safe’ way of smoking. Here’re a few myths and facts about smoking

We often live in the notion of ‘damage is already done’ but talking about smoking, although one might be smoking for years, quitting can really make a different and one can really recover quite fast after quitting.

Often used as a stress buster, smoking can have withdrawal symptoms if avoided but this does not mean that there is no other way to effectively deal with stress.

Smoking seems to be an easy way out but leads to negative health effects which intern adds to existing stress.

As a result, more stress leads to extensive smoking leading to its ill effects on the body, which also increases stress, and the vicious circle continues.

The healthier side of breaking this cycle could be done through balanced/healthy diet, regular exercises, meditation, social support etc.

Smoking is often mistaken to only affecting the lungs, which is myth. In fact, smoking affects our overall health starting from causing heart diseases, BP, ulcers, cholesterol, also contribute to bladder, lungs, pancreas cancer.

It not only affects the smoker but also people around, leading to asthma, sudden infant death syndrome and lung cancer in non-smokers.

Here is a video deconstructing SMOKING.
