[Rendezvous With Kalyani Pardeshi]: On Depression, Parenting, Self Discovery and Passion

1 Mins read

To some Kalyani Pardeshi is just a regular mom, yet to some she is an inspiration – a superwoman and a supermom. Mother to two lovely kids, Kalyani had suffered from postpartum depression and had gone through severe stress and anxiety soon after her son’s birth. From frequent mood swings to yelling, Kalyani remained unhappy and was unable to find happiness – not in herself or around her.

To add to that, her son’s health started getting bad and she had no one to support her. She began to blame herself for her son’s poor health and soon she succumbed to depression.

During this traumatic phase of going through severe depression, Kalyani read the book The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne which taught her an important life lesson:

To stop looking for solutions outside, and start finding the solutions within yourself.

She introspected and realized that she used to actively participate in sports when she was a kid that made her happy and jovial. She started exercising and did workouts as a way to channelize her anxiety and stress in a positive direction.

This motivated her and she bounced back stronger and smarter…

In this video, Kalyani shares her journey through beating depression and from flab to fab, flaunting her six pack abs!

Some of her learning:

  • Start working out – it releases a hormone which results in natural happiness
  • You should realize that you are important. You have your own opinions and own feelings that matter.
  • Start with baby steps towards making time for yourself and then gradually increase.
