How to See the Lighter Side of Life

2 Mins read

A smile starts on the lips, a grin spreads to the eyes, a chuckle comes from the belly; but a good laugh bursts forth from the soul, overflows, and bubbles all around. — Carolyn Birmingham

You must have see a child laughing? What a pleasant view it is, right?

Laughing baby

As we grow up, somewhere behind the worries of life, we tend to forget how to laugh whole heartedly, we forget how one laugh can start an epidemic which can spread the joy. As a child we live in the moment and leave our worries as well as anger behind which makes it easier to laugh and stay happy. As an adult we just pack the burden and keep carrying it wherever we go which makes it impossible for us to have those innocent giggles.

So, as an adult what should we do to see the lighter side of life? Or should we say how to be happy from the inside?

The answer to this question is with all of us –  unleash the inner child and let it play. Be a child sometime and leave your inhibitions behind. Children are happy because they don’t fall in the trap of being judgemental, rather they enjoy with what they have and live in the present. Yes, it’s not always possible for us to be living in the present but it is possible for us to enjoy the present and sometime a little fun can be game changer.

When was the last time you went out and played cricket with kids in the street or when was the last time you went for cycling or ran behind a butterfly?  Do you still collect stamps, coins or tickets? What stopped you from watching Tom and Jerry series?

If you have always enjoyed all this then why aren’t you pursuing them now? We all know it’s very important for us to give time to ourselves in order to be happy, relax and perform better. The other thing which we need to learn from kids is to wonder and get back into imagination. Children always use imagination in narrating something or while playing which takes them to a different zone and makes them feel elated. The adults on the other hand tends to just follow the heard. Imagination, can be as wonderful as a fairy tale so, why not imagine the easier side of life and feel happy about it?

Regression is not always bad, children are generally chirpy and keeps on talking, but as an adult we become reserve and talk less. Sometimes we are shy and sometimes we force ourselves to be quite. Try and leave these thoughts behind – be the child and talk! Say hello to a random person or pass on a smile. Play those silly games and believe in flying – let the child in you overpower you for some time and see how easy it becomes for you to be happy from the inside.

As we grow, we take everything too seriously and that’s where the problem lies. As we grow up we keep falling in the pit of seriousness, deeper and deeper without realizing we are leaving the hand of simplicity and happiness. There is a saying that goes: ‘You will find more happiness growing down than up‘. So start enjoying simple things in life, for example, hear the sounds of the birds and imitate them, watch the sunrise, feel the wind, just re-discover the child in you and then see the change in you.

Don’t stop yourself from laughing whole heartedly, throw your inhibitions for ones and see how beautiful and simple life can be.
