Why Interest Matters While Making Career Choices

Do you think there is something like the best career out there for which everyone has to run this rat race and get there?  And getting into the best career will make us happy? Do you think getting into IIT, IIM or clearing CA exam is the key to success? 

There is nothing as the best career, but there is a perfect career for every one of us. We need to know what makes us happy, and what we will enjoy doing for the rest of our lives. 

When we pick up the stream we like and enjoy, we would not crib to study or work in that field. We would  rather enjoy and love what we do and when we love what we do, we will be HAPPY!!

We see a lot of people complaining about their work. Why? Because they never wanted to work in that current field, but they only picked it up because somebody told it has a lot of scope or good money. But most of them forget to ask themselves the most important questions of all, “Am I Interested in this? Do I have the skill set the job requires? Is this what I want to do for the rest of my life?”

In the rush to make decisions soon after their 12th, most of them want to pick up popular courses, looking at its scope and the pay scale it offers. If that is what works, then why are so many people not finding jobs in the most popular careers?

All of us need to think things through thoroughly before we make decisions about the career we want to pursue. The best way would be identifying your interests, knowing your priorities, exploring your skill sets, and, of course, the job avenue.

A few years back, there were fewer courses and fewer options than there are now. Today, the number of industries have increased – from designing and wedding planning to tattoo artistry. The specializations within industries are also increasing. Just within the field of engineering, you will find scores of specializations and super-specializations. This means that you have plenty of  choices out there. And if you were to make your choice randomly, you may not choose what is best for you and may end up regretting your decision in the future.

1. Begin by figuring out where your interests lie and what your skills are.

3. Based on the reports, explore the career options, related courses, syllabi and colleges that offer the related courses.
4. Read about the careers and understand the nature of work.

Passion is the one thing which will help you survive professionally. Figuring out that one thing you enjoy and want to do for rest of your life will ensure that you won’t lose interest in your job/ career and feel satisfied.
