Things to Keep in Mind if You Are a New Mother

2 Mins read

To open yourself to a new little gift in your life is an intense experience for any mother. With all the changes in lifestyle for the past 9 months, you get physically ready to receive the little one into the world with all love. But of course, there is a major mental transition to go through during and after the period of childbirth.

To get started with this journey, you as a new mother might need some tips and tricks. The list here gives you some of the most important things you will need to keep in mind during this journey.

1. Spend Some Time to Play With Your Baby:

You will naturally be pretty stressed and drained out with all the additional work you have to do to take care of your baby. It is tiring especially till the time you get used to handling all the work by yourself. Instead of worrying about what will happen, just relax and enjoy anytime you get to play with your baby. That will serve as the greatest stress buster. Early days are pretty difficult and they will eventually get better.

2. Ensure Your Baby Sleeps Longer During the Night:

Newborn babies sleep a lot but it is much frequent than long hours. Their eating habits will be 1 small meal every 2-3 hours which means your sleep will get disturbed. The best thing to do is to make sure your baby takes short naps during the day time so they sleep longer during the night. You can wake them up during the day to feed them while at night it is better you leave them at enjoying their quiet and peaceful naptime.

3. Trust Your own Instincts:

The best advice you can ever get about baby care is from your own instincts. We are biologically built in a manner that we can communicate with our baby and understand their needs. So go by what your gut feeling guides you through and you will be okay. People around might share with your their experiences and advice, which is good, but not necessary always right!

4. It’s Normal for Your Baby to Cry:

Newborns tend to cry a lot but it is nothing you need to worry about. They seem to use crying as a method of communication and eventually as you get to understand their needs better, you will know how to attend to them. Those sudden shrill wailing in the night will gradually go once you begin understanding their needs.

5. Don’t Forget to Take Care of Yourself:

Be very careful and considerate towards your body too. After childbirth, your body is all ready to cater to the needs of your baby and is pretty fragile. Make sure you take enough care of yourself so you can take care of your baby well.

6. Ensure People Around Handle Your Baby with Care:

If someone offers to take care of your baby do make sure they know to handle them. Also in case siblings or other kids wish to play with your baby, ensure that their hands are clean and also ask them to play by touching the baby`s feet rather than hands or face to avoid chances of infections.

While all this is essential when you have just become a mother, you must also make sure you get some time to spend with your partner. Also, make sure your partner is ready to offer shared responsibility in taking care of your precious little baby as this will help you grow from being a great couple to great parents.

Being a new parent might seem like a tough nut to crack! But, it sure is a gift and the amount of joy it will bring in your life is worth all the effort. If you feel a need to take advice on how to go through this important and beautiful phase of your life, talk to our experts at YourDOST
