Srivishnu’s Battle With the Voices in His Head

“If you think this Universe is bad, you should see some of the others.”
― Philip K. Dick

As cliché as it may sound, the journey of life is full is full of ups and downs. We all have our happy times and we experience our own troubles and problems that we fight. Bring human, we’re not born with the knowledge to always overcome the lows on our own and a helping hand is all that we need. Srivishnu tells us his story of how he overcame his own challenges, with just a little. bit of help.

Srivishnu is an Engineering student from Salem District in Tamil Nadu and had been diagnosed with Schizophrenia before her joined college and even went for Psychotherapy in Chennai.

I had Schizophrenia before joining college and I took medication for Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder

As per the WHO –
Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental disorder characterized by distortions in thinking, perception, emotions, language, sense of self and behaviour. Common experiences include hallucinations (hearing voices or seeing things that are not there) and delusions (fixed, false beliefs).

However, his life truly chnaged when in he joined Chennai based software firm, Pandocorp as an intern. Here he was introduced to YourDOST and connected with a Psychologist on the platform. He finally felt that he had the right kind of support in his life. The very first advice he got was simple – accept your symptoms. That wasn’t easy at all. But he took courage and slowly took the steps to truly understand what he was going through internally. He had constant support from his YourDOST Expert. He was taught techniques to help him stay in touch with reality and also stay physically healthy.

“I had some imaginary voices which were a worry to me, but they made me listen to real voices which helped me stay in reality.”

Schizophrenia is not something that can be treated in a few days. It takes a lot of time and effort for an schizophrenic person to experience normal life. But the therapy Srivishnu taugth him how to truly distinguish his auditory hallucinations voices from the actual voices around him. He was also helped in overcoming colour hallucination. He never gave up and constantly worked on himself. After constant ups and downs in his life along with Schizophrenia he was finally able to enjoy a normal life and also be able to focus on his work and studies.

They helped me to overcome the problem and come to normal life and how to be happy and how to lead the life with Joy, also balance life with work also.

Constant support during these tough times are things that would make anyone happy and comfortable. It gives them more hope to see a better self.

Imagine the feeling when a heavy weight that you have been carrying around for a very long time is finally taken off. Yes! it feels good doesn’t it? This is what Srivishnu experienced. He states that being able to share his worries with a professional helped him feel better and also focus better on his work and academics.

I have a lot of gratitude for them for helping me and providing me with counselling whenever I needed it.
