Kundana’s Tale Of Finding Her Guiding Light Towards Future Through Therapy

Kundana is a 19-year-old student pursuing her bachelor’s in technology.
She comes from a family of four, including her parents and elder sister. Kundana shares that she has felt closer to her elder sister since childhood, even after her sister married.
Kundana loves to spend time with her friends and adds that even though she can easily connect with people, she is an ambivert when it comes to socialising.
“I’m a go-with-the-flow person, and I used to be an ambivert, but after joining college, I became more introverted. I started feeling a sense of hesitation in expressing myself to people.”
Kundana explains that she faced difficulties because she had been preparing for competitive exams and her undergraduate studies. She also had issues with her romantic relationship, which was stressful because she wasn’t acquainted with her collegemates well enough to share her vulnerable feelings.
She recalled her elder sister suggesting using the YourDOST platform for mental health struggles and well-being. She works as an HR professional at Amara Raja, which has a subscription to the platform as part of its employee benefits.
Kundana sought help from the platform and started taking sessions with the available experts. She had hesitations and fears during her first session but explained that the counselor listened to her with empathy and suggested practical advice and guidance every step of the way.
“I had a lot of anxiety and self-doubts about my exams. On the other side, I got into a relationship with someone who wasn’t compatible. I was completely lost, overwhelmed and felt unsure about my future.”
Kundana explains that as the youngest in her family, while everyone pampered and treated her with much love and affection, her ex-partner wasn’t very good to her. She felt hurt about it, and it was challenging for Kundana to balance.

She recollects being emotional and crying every day. Kundana adds that therapy was the only thing she held onto during these situations. Talking out her situation and expressing her emotions to the counselor relaxed Kundana. She also felt comfortable with the therapist as she could convey her feelings in her native language, Telugu.
“Every session, the counselor made sure to give me a safe and supportive environment to help me speak openly. Their guidance nudged me towards making the right decision for my future.”
Kundana shared some of the difficult situations she faced with her ex-partner and how it made her feel uncomfortable and insecure. The counsellor helped her understand the necessity of choosing what was in her best interest and guided her towards shifting her focus to academics and her career.
“My therapist showed the unhealthy turn of my relationship in the spotlight, and I could see how it was affecting my well-being. The sessions started being the guiding light in my life.”
She explains that the counselor helped her process her feelings and find emotional stability. She elucidates that her anxiety and stress levels have reduced significantly, and she has learned to deal with her situations better.
Kundana adds that therapy helped her rebuild her confidence and find clarity in her decision-making. She started acknowledging the importance of self-care and prioritising her mental health and peace of mind.
“I should thank my counselor for their incredible support in helping me survive these situations. It might seem trivial, but from what I stand, it was extremely tough and challenging.”
She explains that therapy has helped her find the ability to bounce back from any situation life throws at her. It gave her a calm and positive mindset, which aided her self-growth.
“I wouldn’t say everything is perfect now, but it is definitely better and I have the strength to walk through anything with clarity.”
As Kundana works on making the necessary changes for a better future every day, she rates herself 4 out of 5 in terms of feeling better. We are delighted about every progress she makes and hope to see her succeed in the future.
