How Mehfishan Combatted Career Blues

26-year-old Mehfishan has travelled to various corners of the country due to her father who was transferred throughout his job years. Mehfishan who works at Moglix currently has pursued engineering as her field of study after completing her schooling in Assam.

Due to the constant change in location, Mehfishan had developed amazing adaptability to adjust anywhere she went. This also led her to grow interested in learning how to be more independent and understand herself on a deep-rooted level. As her ‘being independent’ phase grew over her, so did Mehfishan’s demand for her ambitions to succeed took over.

Mehfishan took up CAT coaching and scored a good enough percentile, but she wanted to score a better rank and took up another course meanwhile.

“I was going through the college placement season. I used to clear 1-2 rounds and then every time get rejected for the final round.”

During the placements, Mehfinshan started facing a list of rejections which made her question her self-worth.

She started comparing herself with everyone around her. Mehfishan’s urge to do well started taking a toll on her mental health due to the inferiority issue, seeing others around her.

Mehfishan’s constant stress regarding her career and the growing self-doubt developed an inferiority complex in her.

Mehfishan knew that this trait wasn’t making the right impact on her overall personality. Mehfishan grew a lack of patience and was looking down on herself more when she should have been focusing on growing towards her career. She tried to share her thoughts with some of her peers but as it wasn’t helping, Mehfishan soon started bottling her emotions. 

“I decided to consult a counselor as I knew that I needed help. I had no preconceptions about counseling but I was sceptical about how it would turn out for me, but I was ready to t ake that first step.”

Mehfishan described Mahima to be a good listener who gave her a lot of techniques to get over her negative thoughts. So, gathering some faith, Mehfishan went ahead with the sessions. She suggested some breathing exercises that gave control over her anxiety. Mehfishan was also advised to stay busy with her work to avoid feelings of stress.

“I started gaining clarity on my goals and realised that my anxiety had started to lessen. My negative thoughts have reduced.”

Mehfishan had developed a good grip over herself and could finally focus on growing her career.
