Namrata Bids Goodbye to Anxiety Through Determination and Therapy

“Only time can heal your broken heart from a broken relationship. Just as only time can heal his broken arms and legs.” – Miss Piggy.

Namrata Yadav has accomplished a lot in her own life despite changing the course of her life. Namrata, who is 27-years-old, works as a Management Trainee at a Private Equity Firm. Hailing from Indore, Namrata has pursued her undergrad from Roorkee and spent her life pre-MBA in Bangalore and Mumbai. Being a plant parent, Namrata loves reading and working out.

“By the end of my engineering degree, I got into a relationship. We decided to move to Bangalore together but eventually realized that we were very incompatible.”

Namrata realized that she had embarked on a toxic relationship. The differences in needs followed by his ignorance of her emotions created turbulence in their relationship. Although the relationship ended due to the differences in their personalities, Namrata still had a part of her craving for closure. But no matter how much she tried, the odds were not in her favour that time.

Left with her were only tears and grief. Eventually, Namrata decided to give herself some space to start afresh. Namrata relocated to Mumbai with a new job. But as days passed, Namrata saw a toxic environment take over her smooth sailing.

Namrata realized that not only was that job stunting her growth but also straining her overall mental health.

“The work culture in Mumbai was very different and I was not on my learning curve. The environment in the company was not nurturing. I also faced a specific incident that adversely affected my mental, emotional and professional aspects.”

Namrata realized that not only was that job stunting her growth but also straining her overall mental health. Toxic relationship experience and toxic work environment lowered her self-esteem and she developed an inferiority complex.

Nonetheless, not giving up, Namrata was still continuing to work, often leading to devoting more hours to the job than required. This continued until one day, Namrata realized that she was losing her credibility in front of everyone. In short, Namrata was stuck in a messy web!

“I came into a new relationship and this time and he was the person who made me believe in love and to love unconditionally. As they say, the right person always grows with you, he motivated me to grow further in my career.”

Namrata buckled up her seat belts to vigorously prepare for CAT after she quit her job in Mumbai. It is rightly quoted that “tough times make us stronger”. Namrata recalls an incident when she had one last interview to appear for. She ended up calling everyone close to her and with the unconditional support received, she was able to ace the interview. Namrata described it as the best interview she ever had. With the hard work, Namrata was able to crack her exams and ended up pursuing an MBA.

“This was also a milestone in my life when I decided to go for therapy as I had developed deep anxiety issues.”

Namrata realized that she was living among the scars of her previous relationship.

The anxiety had extended to such an extent that it had started to manifest physically leaving pain in the scalp after it retreated. Namrata was taking therapy sessions from YourDOST, where she met Nikita, her counselor. Nikita helped Namrata identify that these were the physical symptoms of anxiety attacks and how she can rectify those, by providing a safe space for her.

“I went for counseling with an open mind. I knew that the counselors had a basic understanding of the techniques and followed the books for the same.”

Namrata realized that she was living among the scars of her previous relationship. Namrata also understood that when counseling and medication go hand-in-hand, the effect can be incredible.

So, putting some faith, Namrata followed the process accordingly.  Nikita helped Namrata go through certain techniques that could help her tackle the anxiety. It started off with some gratitude exercises followed by a thorough discussion of her goals one by one. Namrata was also guided to follow CBT.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness.

“The counseling journey made me more self-aware. By the end, I had a clear reflection of where I stood and what I should be working on.”

Namrata stated that “I have changed a lot since I started taking therapy”. Not only did her self-esteem improve, but also her perspective towards life to look at situations positively inculcated.

Namrata’s improvement also helped her imbibe the things she couldn’t grab in her previous company.

“Now I am well equipped to tackle any situation in my life. I have started reading that helped me develop a growth-oriented mindset.”

Namrata’s improvement also helped her imbibe the things she couldn’t grab in her previous company. Owing to the fresh-new Namrata from the one broken from a toxic past, she extends her warm gratitude to Nikita who was quite empathetic over the entire period of counseling. Namrata admires Nikita’s structured approach to counseling and her judgment of situations. Namrata rated her overall progress through counseling with a 4.5 out of 5 and defines the entire journey as a learning experience

We, at YourDOST, take this journey in itself as a great opportunity to inspire many out there. Namrata has indeed rocked the boat of her life! Being able to cross such oceans of ups-and-down with such courage is an act of bravery and we wish her all the happiness!
